BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- When you think about breast cancer, firefighters might not be the first group you would think of to champion that cause, but Bangor firefighters are making it their mission to fight breast cancer.

They are doing so by printing and selling navy blue t-shirts that depict two firefighters dressed in full gear on a search and rescue operation. The words "Searching for a Cure" appear on the t-shirt as well as the Maltese Cross and a pink ribbon.

The International Association of Firefighters, the union representing Bangor firefighters is spearheading this campaign with all it's local unions nationwide. The proceeds will all go to the Komen Foundation.

"We've got about 200 t-shirts to sell. The firefigthers have paid for the shirts so the entire 15 dollars will go right to Komen, so we hope to raise about $3,000 by the end of the month to go to them," said firefighter Casey Perry.

Bangor Firefighters are asking anyone who wants a t-shirt to fill out an application on their website.
