Show # 265
This is a pretty good show this week. The first segment is with the boys from Acadia Mountain Guides. Jon Tierney is a fantastic climber who makes the experience fun. Jeremy Kupferman can run up and down ice. They are amazing. They were kind enough to drag me up a place known as the Amphitheatre in Grafton Notch. It was loads of fun. I enjoyed my talk with Bobby Valentine. I am a big baseball fan and follow the Red Sox closely. Bobby is 61 and I am 58. We came out of the same generation, so discussions of how he dealt with the draft etc were very interesting to me. Bobby and I are similar in another way. That is we don't mind ruffling feathers a bit. I think he will have a big challenge in Boston. The "old, ugly" Boston media has been reawakened and they are looking for ways that Bobby is not getting along with the players. Personally, I rather like it.
Here's a story. 72 year old Jack McKeon was managing the Florida Marlins in 2003. He went into the clubhouse during the game and there was Josh Beckett. He asked Beckett what he was doing and was told that Beckett was just sort of hanging out. McKeon told Beckett that there was no rule against being in the clubhouse if he had to use the bathroom, but that Beckett should be on the bench in case the manager had a question for him. The next night he noticed that Beckett wasn't in the dugout. He went in the clubhouse and there was Beckett. McKeon grabbed a bat and drove Beckett into the dugout. The Marlins went on to win the World Series.

The last piece tonight is about L. L. Bean. They have been a great Maine company and they are celebrating 100 years in the business. We're going to be hearing a lot about "Beans" this year. I thought I would do my story early in the year! Again, no need to give you a link, but here it is! This was a pretty good show and I appreciate your tuning in.
