Senator William Pitt Fessenden

The final segment tonight is on Senator William Pitt Fessenden.  Fessenden played an important role in America at the time of the Civil War. He became Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury when the Union was facing financial turmoil.  He was an honest, capable and patriotic politician whose story deserves to be known better than it is.  Reading a biography of Fessenden as a high school scholar first turned me on the study of history.  My kids make fun of me, but I enjoy it to this day.
