PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- A former Democratic candidate for governor of Maine has sued her stepfather for allegedly allowing the mismanagement of several low-income housing developments the family company owns by not firing her mother.

Portland businesswoman Rosa Scarcelli says in her federal suit that her stepfather, Karl Norberg, should have fired his wife -- Scarcelli's mother -- Pamela Gleichman.

Scarcelli argues Gleichman neglected to adequately maintain the low-income projects under her watch, and they are now under threat of federal takeover.

The complaint seeks a judgment stating that Scarcelli owns 70 percent of the company, GN Holdings LP, and that she has the authority to decide how to run it.

A lawyer for Norberg says Scarcelli has "zero" stake in the company and intends to respond in court by the march 5 deadline.
