BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--The Bangor Water District is about halfway through the job of replacing old water meters with more efficient ones.
The water district has replaced five thousand water meters over the last nine years. The new meters send out a radio transmission every fourteen seconds with data on water usage.
While the new system won't reduce anyone's water bill it can make reading the meters more efficient. A technician walking or driving by can scan the information without visiting the meter.
There is no fee to have the water meter replaced. The old meters are being sold as scrap metal.
