  • Stand up paddle boarding has been a popular form of fitness for the past couple years, but it wasn't until last year that the sport really started gaining interest in Maine.

    So what is stand up paddle boarding? (SUP) Well, you have a board, and a paddle. You stand on the board and get the picture. I was nervous that I would fall off the board, because I thought for sure it would be hard to keep your balance. The board though is wider than your traditional surf board which does make it easier to not tip over.

    If you are looking for a great full body workout this is definitely the workout for you! I couldn't get over just how much paddling engaged my whole entire core. My legs and arms were pretty sore after. I mean a good sore. I would say the only con of SUP was the fact that my feet kept falling asleep.

    The girls of Wahine Kai that we shot the story with told us that there is also a new trend of people practicing yoga and pilates while on the SUP. They will be offering a Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga clinic Sept 8,9, and 10. We have posted a link for more information.
