PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Runners racing in the Fit at 5K will be raising money for charity.

The race, sponsored by NEWS CENTER, is being held Saturday at Payson Park in Portland.

Money raised in the race will go toward Special Olympics Maine. The organization will use the cash to finance a year round athletic training and competition program for people with disabilities. They have participants from all ages, from 2.5 to 80 years old.

NEWS CENTER's Kelly Labrecque also wants the race to start as a jumping off point for people to get used to running. She says she remembers being inspired by her first 5K and hopes to stir the same resolve in others.
